I work with an ex copper and he says that they have been warned that these hit and run attacks are impossible to prevent or plan for. It's just damage limitation.
Anyone could steal a lorry and be driving down the pavement before someone even realises the lorry has ben nicked.
Once the vehicle is moving, what can you do? Shoot it with an RPG?
Yep, very little preparation and ideal for a lone wolf with no communications to intercept.
I have to wonder why it hasn't happened already - today's attack doesn't seem to be aimed at high numbers of people (choose a busy area) nor Parliament (don't drive down the pavement beforehand).
tbf the location itself sends a message, I imagine sometimes it's not just about the body count.

Good point, it's certainly disrupted London and the Scottish and Welsh Assemblies have been suspended for the day.
I really doubt that anyone cares about that tbh
Well the Scottish Parliament were debating the referendum....

It's times like these when I wonder if our police are a bit too trusting, as compared to US cops who "shoot first and ask questions later".
It seems the attacker was seen "beating a policeman with what looked like a stick", and it was only when he disengaged and started running towards the doors pf Parliament that 2 plain clothes officers shot him.
Should cops have the "right" to shoot if someone breaks into Parliament grounds?
Or should they continue to wait until they're sure they have a verified target before taking a shot?
In essence, this comes down to the UK's approach of "individual responsibility" versus the USA's "qualified immunity" stance.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. The Stockwell shooting has made our armed forces a bit less trigger happy...
