The AA, more than doubling the price every year so that I have to go through the hassle of phoning up and threatening to cancel.

Yeah, that

Why do utility companies take the piss out of their existing customers?

Just recived a renewal notice and thought it was a bit high, 6% increase on last year.

Checked their website, it should be far less,

Called them up, they explained that's an introductory offer for new customers, fair enough, but she immediately offered me 20% discount plus a load of other things for free bringing the price down almost 30%.

I know they hike the prices each year hoping people won't check, but once we invest the time we start looking around we're far more likely to find competitors who offer a cheaper or better service.

But kudos to Fresh Insurance who came in with a lower price this year, and £30 lower than the comparison websites who get paid that for the referral Thumbs up

There was a thing on TV the other days about power companies, new customers are put on a special cheaper rate, but once you have been with then for a while they switch you to something they call Standard Variable Rate. SVR is usually a much higher rate that you can get elsewhere.
It's worth spending an afternoon looking at domestic outgoings and phoning companies up. It is amazing the amount that can be saved.

I've got chickens in my back yard

I hear you. Girl group chats are dangerous.

I have never had fights like that with my mates & esp with colleagues.
Yes, there's been a few that I don't like, but I steer clear & do my best not to engage.

I find that hard to believe.

Well, that's true but it's contractual.

You sign up for a deal which will (usually) offer cheaper prices but often that comes with a cancellation penalty. I presume that's because they bulk buy ahead and can get their supply for less if they know we'll be with them for 12 months.

When the contract expires you're automatically moved to the SVR which you can cancel without notice, maybe a month.

But there's nothing to stop you from shopping around, thank god for comparison websites, and then calling your company to negotiate another contract.

Generally I find that works with insurance but it's harder with utility or phone companies. They seem to think it's a bother switching, sure there can be some teething problems but the savings are well worth it.

Why? I don't get into screaming matches, not interested. I've cut a few people out of life but the ones remaining are true friends.

Not knowing if I've put a dirty t shirt on, or if this new wax jacket stinks. First time I've worn it. Hoping it's the wax.

Either way I stink.

The fact the government can lose a vote 299-0 because they all abstained on pausing the roll out of universal credit but ineffect it means nothing.
