I couldn't care less what people wear however, why are they choosing to wear them NOW? They didn't 20+ years ago.
To make a point? Provoke?

It really is just an extension on the swimsuit back in the 20s. Aussie life guards wear something similar due to the harmful sun rays. No big deal. Like I said, I don't care. I just wonder if it's more to do with making a point & shoving it down people's throats.

I doubt it. possibly, but I doubt it. Also this has to be taken in context with the whole french situation. you could make a reasonable argument for either side tbh.

If I went to a Muslim country, I would cover up more, even though I'm an atheist, I would respect their religion. So why shouldn't they respect our ways? It's all one way-their way. Sorry but we're too tolerant. Saying that, there's plenty of beached whales that could do with a burkini.
It doesn't seem that different to a wetsuit in practical terms, it just seems a little overboard making it illegal IMO.
Apart from the obvious fact that putting on more clothes to get wet is a fucking stupid idea anyway, it's like putting on a blindfold to drive a car.

This. It actually annoys me that people are getting so f*****g het up and making modesty illegal.
And in fact, if you want people to integrate and be part of the community, how about welcoming them instead of making it illegal for them to enjoy the beach unless they strip off?

Yup.
I've yet to hear about a suicide bomber blowing themselves up whilst swimming...
And they look more like seals so other people would be safer if a shark attacked.
