Michael Barrymore was the first celebrity I ever met! When I was about 14/15. He was in Warrington on tour for his TV show and I got his autograph after he walked off stage.

I've always liked him. Just the atrocity what happened in his home puts him in a very dark light. Shame. At least he's now getting some compensation.

Explains a lot about you.

He has been awarded substantial damages.

The judge just said it should be more than a nominal sum, but hasn't ruled it's substantial...

Quote:
Mr Barrymore was arrested in 2007 in connection with the 31-year-old's death.

Mr Justice Stuart-Smith, sitting in London on Friday, ruled against the force, which had argued Mr Barrymore should only receive a nominal payout.

The judge did not decide on the sum to be awarded, as his ruling dealt only with the preliminary issue of the level of damages to be awarded to Mr Barrymore.

The question is whether Essex police will have to cover loss of earnings, that could be massive!

Apparently the court has said he's entitled to £2.4 million from the police. Shocked

I'm surprised it's not a lot more, he must have been earning a good million a year and hasn't worked since.

yep ^^ my thoughts too

Yeah, to be fair, he was arrested without evidence to justify, even the CPS said there wasn't enough, and his career was over at that point, so he'll probably get a fat wedge plus legal fees.

Good ole' cops!

tbf, someone did die in his house - duty of care, etc.

and by "in his house" obvs this includes on the property, whatever.

This is a murky area. There are plenty of guilty people who have been found not guilty in court. Equally, there have been some vicious miscarriages of justice and proper cunts have walked free. The "scales" of justice.
