Off the pitch, it has been a cracker. Watching all the fans, the colour, the South Africans loving it has been nice to watch. On the pitch, it's been boring. Game of the tournament for me was Japan 2 Denmark 1 with the two quality free kicks.
The first two weeks of a World Cup are brilliant. 3 games a day, Match Of The Day every night, ITV highlights, I just couldn't get enough of it.
It's basically over when the Quarter Finals stage comes, the games start dwindling off 1 day, then 1 every 3 days.
Ah well, the Premiership starts soon.

[Edited by kev on 11-07-2010 01:33 AM]As a South African I'm quite proud of what we have achieved. The football has at best been mediocre, but that is more down to the teams than anything South Africa has any influence over.
However my overriding memory of this world cup will be the cheating, diving and piss poor reffing. Football is in a dire state in my eyes. The margins for winning in most cases are only 1 goal so fifa really need to clean up the game. And they should most definitely introduce goal line technology and penalty goals. If as in the case of the Ghana game it's a clear goal and it's handled on the line they should give the goal. It makes perfect sense. Fifa is living in the dark ages and needs to evolve because they are ruining the game. It's not very enjoyable to watch teams cheat their way through tournament.
What remains as the legacy in SA will be quite interesting. They are already talking about bidding for the 2020 olympics. There has also been a dramatic drop in crime in the last month and if the momentum of the world cup can be maintained that will serve as a benefit to the whole country that is almost immeasurable in monetary value. To feel safe walking around in your own country as has happened during the world cup is something of a novelty for South Africans. I think there will huge public pressure on the government from all sides to improve safety for all South Africans in the future.
