But you'd never get past the selection process, you know you wouldn't.

Which makes them more competant than you at something. So stop calling them unskilled, they are highly skilled specialists imo.

What do you mean forgotten? it's the only reason they are striking.

Now that it's been mentioned it all sounds very familiar, I'd just forgotten about it.

Maybe you could help us understand your opinion by defining why you think it is they are unskilled? Let us know how much you actually understand about the skills and knowledge required to do such a job?

Sorry, is there a degree they have to do? I may have missed that.

Feel free to post all the qualifications required to be a fireman. Smile

Also, why exactly is it a stupid career choice to risk your life? I've seen you make the comment several times in this thread but not once taken the time to explain how you come to this conclusion?

And why would I berate someone for putting themselves at risk? Especially when in a scenario where they are saving lives? Quite the opposite, I have massive amount of respect for people who put their life at risk to help and saves others, especially people such as fire fighters when under extreme pressure physically and mentally in a situation when they only get one shot to get it right.

You're asking me why putting your life at risk is stupid? Really?

Oh dear.

I don't get your first sentence.

Doctors and firefighters are nothing like each other.

You know, when everybody is disagreeing with you on points you make, maybe they are right and you are wrong?

Maybe?

That never normally stops you.

Mind you, probably only because you just don't understand what's going on rather than because you're too stubborn.

Any industrial action is more than necessary. When does it ever happen in the private sector?

It's pretty much exclusive to public service workers, and is based on the fact they can cause disruption. It's not related to the fact that they are suffering such bad conditions. Unless you think it's complete coincidence that the strikes are only done by those who can get headlines and visibility from doing so?

Strikes are more the preserve of the Public Sector, the 80s saw to that, but they do still happen in part privatised places like the post office, BA staff went on strike recently, and even the NUJ strike occasionally.

I'd far rather negotiate my own terms of employment than do it through a union, but when you're a government employee I totally see why unions have a part to play.

While firefighters don't have to have an academic background they are very highly skilled in various rescue techniques.

I don't really see your logic for sneering at a lack of academic qualifications fire fighters do or don't have. If I needed to be cut out of the wreckage of my over turned burning car I wouldn't give two fucks about whether the bloke doing it had a first in classics, but I would want him to be quick with the jaws of life.

I've started a bloody dance music blog http://www.electronicarchivez.com/ Check it.
