» Play My Shit

Label: Doof Doof Traxx
Format: Digital
Genre: Hardstyle

Play My Shit is a Hardstyle track which uses a very well known vocal sample to good effect. You probably have heard it, it goes “Play that fuckin’ track”.
The original mix is very fast, starting with low pass filtered bass kicks and some glitched percussion. The vocal filters up during the bass introduction, before the cool, off beat bass slips in.
The breakdown takes this track from being cool to rather wicked though, as this is where the vocal gets chopped to fuck, then it slows down and then speeds right back up again in fantastic style. The main drop is great, excellent use of the sample, and comes complete with a brand new riff. Great fun!

With the Brainkicker Old School remix, the vocal sits clear over the powerful kick and bass combo, whilst the percussion and other elements join the mix as it goes. The bass here is louder in the mix and a bit better too, and the arrangement of the percussion and other sounds is better too.
It uses one of those old Hardstyle synths that sound like a screech sound effect of some sort to begin with, but the breakdown produces a much more contemporary synth that does the job nicely. A loud, distorted bass kick takes over for a while after the short breakdown which really wasn’t necessary, but it’s good fun nonetheless.
