» Dancefloor Freakin’/Eat The Floor

Reviewed by Dean Zone / Submitted 04-08-09 19:43

Label: Doof Doof Traxx
Format: 12" Vinyl
Genre: Hard Trance/Hardstyle

Freakin’ starts with a glitchy, breatless intro that relies on snares to cram energy into the track, followed by a sample from one of the most oversampled films ever, “Human Traffic”. What follows is a German off beat bass larger than Jo Brand after a weekend long pie eating competition and sounds just as dirty. There’s not many elements to this track but it’s held together well by lots of variation which keeps it interesting. The breakdown sees a huge riff and synth combo that’s slightly cheesy, but as it’s combined with another vocal from the film I can see this getting some good crowd reactions as it’s easily recognisable. Not original at all and quite short at under 6 minutes long, but it will definitely work on harder floors.

Eat the Floor is slightly more aggressive than Freakin’. The vocal used (I don’t recognise the film this time) and the lower bass both contribute to the dark ambience, as does an early stabby intro riff. Again the elements are very minimal with barley a clap, snare and ride as percussion, and the breakdown has a very Hardstyle bell sound synth that’s been used to death almost. It’s not as catchy as Freakin’ but it will still work on harder floors and is a nice cross between hard trance and Hardstyle.
