Label: Terminal Trax
Format: Digital
Genre: Hardstyle/European Hard Trance

The Original starts off with just a kick, some atmospherics and a vocal sample duly stolen from the hit film “300”. Never before have I heard a tune with a movie sample in it so early which is a bold move as it may not always find it’s way into the mix, but even so it’s no bad thing. There’s so much of the narrator from the film that it’s practically half the script in here, but the stomping beat and off beat bass makes up for it. It lacks any real percussive element however, which is a bit of a strange move, even for a Hardstyle tune.
The breakdown then takes the tune in a totally different direction as a subtle pad takes over, again with more samples from the film. They work together quite well to bring it to a sweet climax before the main riff drops. The riff is good but the Synth lacks the power it really needs, but the tune shoots itself in the foot slightly at the drop as it reverts to a Hardstyle beat, taking the riff with it and running it what sounds like a huge Gate, something which didn’t really work for me.

SHOCK:FORCE are one duo that I have had my eye on for a while now and have been lucky enough to receive lots of their stuff very early. Consisting of Matt Thomas and production genius Sully means that this remix was only ever going to be European Hard Trance at its best, something they proved recently with a jaw dropping remix of DJ Kim – Jetlag coming out on Tyranno Records.
They do the same again here, turning Waiting To Die into the monster tune it should have been to begin with. The kick is a solid Hard Trance one, the percussion reeks of Scot Project where the original had none, a massive off beat German bass line has been thrown in an the vocal has been removed to all but 3 words and altered so much that it is unrecognisable in comparison. Indeed, even I, an avid film buff, didn’t know it was taken from “300” until I heard the original just last week! The breakdown is far superior too, wider and lusher pads combine with an added bass drone and a few note changes to the riff makes so much difference. Maybe the build out of the breakdown lasts a bit too long but I will get over it. Top work yet again, expect more killer tracks from these two soon!
