Heavy Petting is a very cheeky bootleg of the chart topping “I Kissed A Girl” by that naughty little mix Kate Perry (whom would definitely get some Hot Zone Loving). But I digress, as this track’s got a gnarly German Kick + Bass combo to it, and with snares practically on every beat it gives it an almost Hardstyle feel. Then the screeching noises come in, the vocal gets chopped up and I realise that maybe it actually IS Hardstyle! It’s the first time I have ever actually been bothered to listen to the words of this song in all honesty, and whilst the vocals have been altered to suit the tone of the track they still sound clear and defined. I can definitely see this one working on lots of floors. It’s not got a cheesy element to it despite the vocal so for me its underground feel remains intact but at the same time I think Mr. West and Dangerous can expect a law suit through the door sometime soon.
On the flip is F.E.A.R., a collaboration with Symtal. This is a truly evil track because it contains one of the most disturbing sounds a person can possibly hear. No, not the tried and tested “fingernails on a black board”, nor is it the latest attempt at “music” from The Blackout Crew, but the sound of a baby crying. This is shortly followed by another sample, much more aggressive in tone, before the drum and mega bass kick in. These are accompanied by your usual snares and screeches and stabbing riff. The breakdown consists of a dark bass drone and whispered vocal and that says “don’t be afraid. I’m yours”. It’s all rather typical Dark By Design really. I personally love it, especially when it goes all Steve Murano with the vocal and changes the kick to an evil distorted one and goes proper Dutch Hardstyle on everyone! It’s maybe a touch too long coming in at over 9 minutes, but you certainly get a lot for your money with this.
