Jim Justice – St8 of XTC

Let me first state the obvious that the name of this track is quite horrendous, and as to why text speak is becoming ingrained in even tune names is beyond me. However, this little detail does not really concern me much as the tuneage on offer here is quite excellent. The original is driven by a rolling bass and some serious 303 goodness, along with one of the most overused vocal samples in club land ever (you’ll recognise it when you hear it). The drop comes courtesy of a wickedly badass drum and fill that’s reminiscent of them old Wid & Ben tunes on Tidy Two.

The remix comes from one of the hottest properties in hard trance right now, young Peter Joosten aka Sixth Sense. His remix begins with a loud kick and energetic percussion which leads to the bass, which is a subtle off beat. The synth work here is first class, clean and crisp. Practically unrecognisable from the original. Add in the atmospherics and shrill like 303 and it almost sounds like a S.H.O.K.K. production, which is no bad thing that’s for sure. The break is much more euphoric with an excellent broken beat helping to keep the pace up and much less emphasis on the vocal.

Both are rather good and I am definitely having trouble picking between the two.
