Everybody’s favourite price is free, let’s face it. Now when you get something for free you never think it’s going to be as good as something that’s similar but that you have to pay for. This is what I love about new free label Fools Forest (brought to you by Swedish producer Ultraform). Because quite simply everything I have heard from there so far has rocked, I haven’t had to pay a penny for it and best of all, it’s legal.

Reborn/Collapse is the second release on the “X” imprint of Fools Forest (of which there is also Y, Z, and V, all of which cater for different styles).
Reborn is a dark, industrial and totally fucked up Hardstyle/tech track. It really is a no holds barred journey into sound and groove for the first 4 minutes before the first hint of melody, but it’s such a twisted, sinister and constantly evolving tune that you’d never know (or care). There is such intricacy here that I dread to think how long this took to make, but I am glad Dimensioncrasher did. Similarly I can’t think of many floors in London that would dig this as much as I do, but if there’s a revolution of sound coming and it sounds like this, then I want to be at the forefront of it.

Collapse is a lot less mental and harsh as reborn. There’s a clear electro influence in the percussion and bass line, but it’s still got the industrial and raw sounds that make it stand out in an overcrowded market when lots of stuff has an “electro influence”. The pace has been taken right down and like Reborn it lacks a melody or real riff for the most part but it’s continually morphing, with subtle changes followed by sudden bass intensive moments. A very short breakdown that leads you in and back out before you know what’s hit you is a nice, subtle hint at the artists possible disdain of euphoric breakdowns, and as much as I love those, it did make me smile. Far to short at just less than 5 minutes, and I doubt I’ll ever get to play it to a crowd, but what the hell, it’s still awesome.
