Mauguzun pres. Pawel C/Orbital Frame

» Flashback/I.D.O.L.O

Label: Amplified Digital
Format: Digital
Genre: Tech Trance/Hard Trance

Hailing from Sweden is none other than Mauguzun. Whilst my pronunciation of this is probably wrong and I have absolutely no idea what it is supposed to mean, he’s been behind some rather banging tunes for a while now and has been a name firmly etched into my brain as one to watch. After the simply amazing Endorphins on Ner0, Mauguzun is back, this time however, he’s brought a friend. Flashback is a tough trance track that’s so tough it’s borderline hard trance, but I know it would work on either type of crowd. The kick is very punch and the intro percussion shuffles along but it keeps the energy flowing.
What I first thought was the bass comes in very early, only to be replaced by another, deeper bass line that comes out of nowhere. Subtle atmospheric sounds and pads make this tune sound like it is almost constantly changing, whilst the added elements slowly build up to the breakdown. The sub bass doesn’t stop throughout the duration of the breakdown, which is a nice touch as it acts like a pulse whilst the lush pads build up the breakdown very well. A dirty as you like lead takes things back to the beat which signals a slight change of direction, but it’s perfectly pitched so it doesn’t feel out of place with what has gone before it.

Orbital Frame is the tech trance guise of Mauguzun, last seen on Communicate with the stunning double EP Neith/Solaris. This is very much the same as Flashback; dark and hard beats with a lush, uplifting core. The bassline here reminds me of the kind used by S.H.O.K.K., but there’s far more to this than a sexy bassline. There’s some neatly hidden 303’s, distorted Arps and of course, a kick ass riff. The breakdown consists of more subtle pads, a short break beat section and a nice drop that hits on a sweet note. Not quite as techy or uplifting as Flashback, but it still hits all the right notes. With production that’s beginning to rival the depth of fellow Swede Ultraform with every production, if Mauguzun/Orbital Frame wasn’t one to watch before, then he definitely should be now.
