Prove It

» Piston Sauce

Reviewed by Dean Zone / Submitted 21-06-08 20:41

Label: Headcharge Recordings
Format: Digital
Genre: Hardstyle

“Basic” is a term used often by the detractors of Hardstyle, which is flipped to “Raw” with its fans. I only say this because Piston Sauce by Prove it in Headcharge is definitely one of the more basic Hardstyle tunes out there. What is here is good, it just seems to me that there is still lots of room for more.

Starting with a very long baseless intro, some cool panned percussion and a slightly warped vocals just about hold my interest until a mini breakdown. A nice count down (or should that be count up?) sequence repeats itself as a stabbing synth grows in the background, which does sound rather good. Its repeats itself twice again, the last time adding a seriously dirty bass kick, which really should have been there for the start. It all ends rather suddenly after the said bass kick suffers a rapid death all of a sudden and before you know it, the voice that has been talking incoherent nonsense throughout the track proclaims “this game is over”.

Whilst I wouldn’t call this basic, I would say that it sounds a bit shallow, but what is here is rather good and works well, for the most part.
