Label: Kiddfectious
Format: Digital
Genre: Shranz / Hardstyle

With his recent success at the Hard Dance Awards (best DJ and party animal of the year), Alex Kidd decides it is time to unleash his own record label, titled Kiddfectious, onto the unsuspecting clubber.
Known for playing at the harder end of the hard dance spectrum, Hardstyle and more recently Shranz seem to be his sound over the last few years. Imagine then, my first thought upon realisation that this, his first release on Kiddefectious, is essentially a very cheeky bootleg of Madonna – Music (for those of you as uninterested as me in Madonna’s music, this was the one with Ali G in the video).
Complete with a Dark by Design remix, the word “intrigued” pretty much summed up my feelings…

Just as I thought, the original mix of this is a no holds bared bosh-a-thon. The intro contains more distortion than I think I have ever heard on a track, before you get attacked by a savage beat that just hammers away at your skull, interspersed with some Madonna vocals.
I can’t quite imagine that they got permission to do this, so I am going to assume that they have recreated the vocal, which sounds pretty much spot on.
There are some great little quirky 1 bar shuffles which help to keep everything interesting, something that is definitely needed given the lack of a bass line. The breakdown (if you could even call it that) contains a vox from the original tune, more Madonna vocals and more very distorted beats. It builds fantastically out of the break with an eerie scream and more kicks than you can shake a stick at, giving plenty of energy for the drop.
If you like your tunes with some subtlety or melody then stay well away as this contains neither. But if you like cheeky bootlegs and some seriously pounding naughtiness then you’ll just love this.

7/10

Remix duties for Music fall to none other than one of my favourite producers, Dark by Design! Another producer recently preferring a more Hardstyle sound, this remix shows a slightly less raw sound compared to recent efforts.
The first main difference notable here is that this is definitely not Shranz. More like his productions circa 2006, it’s got a German style off beat bass along with a thumping kick. The first mini break heralds a great lead synth that’s as dirty as fuck but definitely from the school of Hardstyle.
The vocals are used more sparingly until some great chopping work Steve Murano style comes in over the beat, and it sounds wicked.
Shortly after this it goes into the breakdown, building similarly to the original before a main riff fades in. It’s again got Hardstyle written all over it and is definitely what the original was missing.
When the bass returns it’s even dirtier than it was before and when combined with the typical DbD driving percussion it turns into everything the original could have been.
Definitely on my play list for the next few months.

9/10
