One of my favourite and most played tunes of 2006 gets a re-release and a new remix. Indeed, I loved this so much it was the last tune on my Underground Zone 2 demo, which I did LAST December.
The original of Control is everything I look for in a tune. It’s hard. It’s very uplifting to the point where most Trance producers would be proud to have written it. And, by not means least, it’s got to have depth. This tune fulfils all of those in a huge way!
The percussion has depth. More so than most tunes I own, I am not afraid to admit, but i'm not ashamed. The bass here is wicked, not too large nor too understated, with just a hint of distortion. The main riff intro is superb, a short and sweet introduction before shooting off again at the speed of light.
The main breakdown is humongous, deep, rich and quite simply, amazing. The break doesn’t last one second too long before the pounding kick is getting our arms of the air and feet stomping again! A rollercoaster of a ride of ever there was one.
I think this is going back in the box…

And the reason for this re-release? Well, label boss Dave Joy has only gone and got Blutonium Boy and DJ Neo to remix it. First heard on Dave’s mix of the Synergy CD a few months back, I loved it then, even if it did feel out of place in the CD.
Aggressive kicks and percussion start this tune, interspersed by your usual bass kicks and squelching noises. This remix is one that could easily have ruined the memory of the original. Thankfully however, as a Hardstyle tune, it’s bloody good.
If you’d have made the original any hard you would have ended up with something similar to this anyway, so I can see why Dave has commissioned this remix. The main riff transposes incredibly well to the Hardstyle sound, and whilst there are uplifting moments (yes, it does happen in Hardstyle, it’s not all Womp, Doof and Waah!) it retains the drive it needs to be a good Hardstyle track. They’ve even added a vocal sample, albeit a rather evil one, just to make it even more complete.
Definitely one of my very hard trance or Hardstyle sets.

9/10
