Original Mix

The original mix starts off with a very electro sounding intro, but this very quickly dissipates and turns into a pumping trancer.
Pulsating old skool sounding Laser stabs ricochet around in what is probably the funkiest trance tune I have heard in a long time. It builds really well into a short break sequence, where a quirky, slightly gated riff enters.
Queue a mental drum sequence and off it goes again, stabs whirring all over the place, full on funk in’ it up until it reaches the real breakdown.
It doesn’t spend long beat less until it starts building again, covered in distorted leads and the trademark stabs.
Musically there is not much to this tune, it doesn’t use any fancy FX, it doesn’t have a killer riff and it doesn’t have any vocals. But it is a lot of fun, and that is what matters.
Yes there is an electro trance element in this tune, but it’s far too upbeat for it to be enough to put me off.

Joey V Remix

A much harder mix this, with Joey going for a borderline hard/tech feel.
It’s out of the blocks before you can say “Oh my god it’s techy and Zoney doesn’t hate it!” going to bass line in 2 phrases. That bass is however rather large, and with any more distortion it could easily be mistaken for being rather German.
But if you think that sounds nice, the first mini break lets the bass off the leash, big time! It drones up and sounds fantastic, taking centre stage before shooting off again with tonnes of energy.
The main break again is all about the bass with long, uninterrupted notes really hammering the point home. I haven’t heard a tune with either A: Such a good bass line or B: Such a reliance on the bass as part of a track in a long time.
Eventually the riff filters down, only this time it’s definitely been added to. Synths join the melee before the huge bass comes whirring back to finish it off.
I get the distinct feeling that Joey had a huge amount of fun making this bad boy. It shows. In the wallet!

Davy Walker Remix

The most traditional of the package, this mix starts off layering tight percussion for 4 phrases before the introduction of a moving bass. Good use of FX adds to the depth, and the quirky stabs of the original make a return.
It moves at quite a rate this one, and whilst I would hesitate to call this hard, it certainly seems rather fast.
The break is a much more pad orientated affair hear, being the first mix to really try for some euphoria, and it definitely achieves this.
Subtle 303’s remain through the entirely of the breakdown, before the main riff is revealed. I was expecting something a lot more uplifting or powerful, but all I got was something that just didn’t seem to fit. It’s certainly different but for me it just doesn’t work. If you can imagine what a bird would sound like if its early morning song was sampled and given the trance treatment then you might be able to get an inkling of what I am talking about because I can’t think of any other way in which to describe it. It also strays far too close to the cheese barrier for me.
It’s a shame because it was doing so well, covering ground that the other mixes hadn’t. Oh well.
Thankfully this riff doesn’t last long before the track returns to normal, but I can’t help thinking that this could have been so much better!

Riccocha’s Outside In Mix

The last mix of this package is an alternate mix by the original artist. This time there seems to be a much more emphasis on proper trance. Gone is the funky sounds and feel of the original, instead replaced by more traditional trance sounds.
It builds well to bass introduction, with some good use of rapidly stabbing Synths which create lots of energy. This leads into a very unexpected drum roll which sounds a bit out of place as it took me completely by surprise.
The breakdown again doesn’t stay beat less for very long, preferring to let moving, distorted leads over the top, complete with the laser sounding stabs.
In all it’s not massively different from the original apart from a change of feel, but the elements are still here. A lot more trance and less funk this time though.

7/10
