Ultraform - I'm In Your Head
Ultraforms “I'm In Your Head” is a tune that doesn’t easily fit into any category. Starting off pretty much like a drum and bass tune means that I certainly won’t forget this in a hurry. And yes I am sure that I mean drum and bass and not breaks, of which elements/sections can be found in just about every other hard dance track from the last 2 years.
Starting with a compressed DnB loop and a spooky vocal, it elevates well into what sounds very much like a Drum and Bass intro, maybe minus the Synth in the background which can be heard fading in and out. Then comes an almighty “thud” and the DnB madness stops. A chopped vocal sings, acid filters in along with Synths, building to an almighty crescendo leading in a fantastic two note bass line. Definitely an intro track if ever I heard one!
After such a fantastic start it goes on to more typical German trance madness, and whilst uplifting there is always a subtle brooding, sinister side. This is brought to the fore during the main breakdown, using a wicked spoken vocal which gets the distortion treatment, along with some more proper DnB madness, before unveiling the full riff, which is a simple yet effective melody. The level of production on this tune is amazing. I really can’t stress how much thought has gone into this track to make it so different. Its got bags or energy too, as well as having an awesome intro.

BACED! - Mistress Of Darkness
Whilst the former has what has got to be one of the best intro sequences in recent times, Baced’s “Mistress of Darkness” has a very annoying one. Only having 32 beats before a whooping bass line crashes in, you really don’t get enough time to mix this baby in, which is a shame because it’s a rather nice hard trancer. It has a bass kick which could easily be mistaken for belonging in a Hardstyle track, but it never really strays into that area as it has far to much of a trance element to it.
Lots of bass was used in the making of this it seems, so I’m expecting this to kill off a few bass bins in club land over the next few weeks.
Almost screeching sounding synths echo over the bass fuelled kicks and rides, before warm pads take the tune on an unexpected turn. A DnB style loop goes surprisingly well over what is a gorgeous breakdown, which in the space of once kick drum manages to turn completely menacing and untoward.
Like a juggernaut heading towards you at full speed with a hint of old school Scot Project in its sythns, the dam right wrong vocal completes what seems to be a tune that doesn’t know if wants to be euphoric or downright scary!
Handle with caution!
