Steve Allen and Ben Alonzi have been pressing all the right trance buttons of late, showing a versatility not shown by most trance producers.
Wake Me is a very well made trancer featuring the vocal talents of the very strangely named Mque (answers on a postcard for that one, please!) and comes with more mixes than you can shake a stick at!
Original
The original mix is a typical Allen and Alonzi type trancer, only this time with a huge slice of vocals thrown in for good measure.
Excellent use of swooping bass drones add contrast to sweet sounding faint piano, which when combined with the excellent melody sounds just fantastic. The Vocals by Mque are pretty standard, typical trance fare. I can’t really understand much of the lyrics, but it just adds depth to what is already an excellent track. The breakdown doesn’t last too long, which is the main problem a lot of vocal trance tracks seem to have, and whilst it’s not quite as good as my favourite vocal trancer of the year (Eternal by P.H.A.T.T and Jennie Rix) it is still and incredibly strong release, one of the best from the Communicate/Diverted stable in my opinion. The one thing that I think could have been improved is the use of the riff. It is incredibly underused or made to take a back seat when it should have been a bit more of an integral part of the track.

On a slightly more pumping note we have the Fabe and Thorn remix. They must have agreed with my previous comments about the riff being more prominent in the tune, because here it takes a much more of a leading role, along with the notable addition of some serious acid. The acid is such that it reminds me of just about anything by Uberdruck. Good in my books, but not everyone will agree.
I was barely over my shock of the mental 303 when the break hit. Going for a much more reach for the lasers feel, it relies much more on lush pads and a stunningly well done slightly gated main riff that sounds phenomenal. Also worthy of note is the lack of any vocals of any sort. Here they have been given the chop, and you know what, it even sounds slightly better for it.
This has peak time written all over it, and if it doesn’t get hammered by some the big jocks then they don’t know what they are missing!
8/10
There are other mixes, from both Electro and Prog artists also, so this really is a release that is open to just about anyone!
