Label: Thrustgroove
Format: 12" Vinyl
Genre: European Hard Trance
After what seems like an eternity, Thrustgroove are back on my favourite music medium, vinyl, with 3 mixes of pure dance floor destruction.
Original
The original mix sets out the stall well, starting with minimum fuss (who needs more than 3 layers of percussion when you have a bass line this fat waiting to be unleashed?). It’s not overly hard which means that it can fit in allsorts of set plans, but it’s hard enough to do the job at peak time if required. The vocal loop is a tad annoying but it’s only in the background so it doesn’t ruin it too much.
The breakdown is a slow builder which compliments the long notes in the main riff well. Some clever use of panning contributes some energy into an otherwise average drop, but there is plenty of quality here to keep this in the box for a while yet.

Yoshi Remix
Thankfully this Yoshi in question is not green and doesn’t have a Mario riding him constantly (well, not as far as I know!).
Anyways, this is my pick of the bunch. The breakbeat intro works really well, using orchestral chords with snares leading to the mother of all basslines. Very German in style, it’s off beat, comes with rides, it’s big and it certainly sounds great!
This contains so much energy it’s untrue, the main riff comes into play much quicker here and it certainly helps. The vocal loop isn’t used as much here also, but the fact that its still there is a slight annoyance.
The break is wicked, fooling you into thinking its going to drop, then bringing back the break beat. Not a conventional break by any means, but it’s guaranteed to get the crowd jumping. You have to listen to it for yourself to see what I mean. An absolute belter!
9/10
Nick the Kid and Louk Remix
If I could choose one word to describe this mix it would be this: pumping!
Starting off almost like a hardstyle track, it’s got aggression, it’s got drive, and most importantly of all, it’s got a chopped vocal instead of the annoying one the other mixes have. Yay!
The Bass could be a bit more prominent for my money, and there seems to be far too much echo/delay on the clap, but other than that I can’t really find fault with this.
It came as a surprise to me when the breakdown was more like a trance tune than any of the others, considering how far removed it is to the other mixes which are more similar.
Lush pads take over from the driving beats in what is probably the most euphoric cut out of the lot.
A very different mix to the others which definitely warrants a purchase on its own.
8/10
