It makes me laugh when people say to me “the music these days is not as good as it used to be”. Granted there are more people releasing music due to the advent of software production packages and downloads, meaning anyone can start up a digital label with practically no risk involved at all. But for me it’s always been about quality over quantity.
And boy is this tune quality!
Every DJ has a defining moment. So does every singer. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was P.H.A.T.T and Jennie Rix’s, to be honest. Yes, it’s that good!
The original mix is the slightly harder of the two on offer here, but it does have extremely high, trance esq. production values. The bass and acid are both typical P.H.AT.T and are instantly recognisable. I still can’t decide however if that is good or bad, though it is probably good considering how much of his material I own.
But that’s enough beating about the bush. This track has one of the most amazing breakdowns I have heard all year.
It’s perfectly worked down, into a gorgeous Piano over the slowly faded out intro riff.
Slowly rising pads bring in the amazing vocal, which is without doubt the best vocal I have ever heard from Jennie and beats just about every other trance vocal I have heard in the last few years. I cannot fault this tune at all. It is perfect in practically every way.
Full of emotion and energy, it really is one of these big room tunes that you have to listen to. No trance or hard trance DJ can afford to be without this tune. If the Piano riff doesn’t melt you’re heart then you might as well be dead because you have no soul
The Pierre Pienaar remix (or P.H.A.T.T’s real name) is a slightly trancier affair.
The main differences are the groovier bass, and the earlier introduction of the Piano, this time helping to bring the tune into breakdown. This time there is much more emphasis on the lush pads than the vocal, which for me makes it slightly inferior to the original mix. The piano and vocal return after the main break though, but other differences are minimal. Still an awesome tune though.
An instrumental completes the package of tunes on the vinyl.
In summary, this is Pierre Pienaar's best work, and, to be even more bold, one of the best releases on Planet Traxx. Buy it
