Label: Red Alert
Format: 12" Vinyl
Genre: Hard Trance
One of my favourite labels returns. Based in Italy and responsible for a large chunk of my record collection, Red Alert are responsible for some belting Hard Trance and Hardstyle.
In My Dream (2007 Remix)
The first track off of this remix EP the Luca Antolini DJs remix of his own tune In My Dream. Whilst the original was quite driving, this is relatively limp in comparison. Starting with a pointless and overly long breakdown intro, it then proceeds to fail to get out of 2nd gear. Whilst the production is crisp enough, it feels like Luca has just discovered how to fade, as this tune keeps stopping, fading out them coming back in again. Not only does this make an already limp track have less energy, but it’s also very annoying. The main break is nicely done, but it isn’t enough to keep me from wondering why he bothered. Feels more like fluffy trance than the hard trance it is and it’s not like the original needed updating anyway in my opinion.

Heat (Steve Hill Vs. Dark By Design Remix 2007)
Heat is a far superior remix. I was very surprised to see Dark By Design and Steve Hill on here as this label seems to keep its artists to a very bare minimum of in house and affiliate producers. Anyone who is vaguely familiar with DBD should know what to expect from him by now and teaming up with Steve Hill, a DJ and producer who seems to be continually more influenced by the European sound, it should come as no surprise as to what kind of tune they have come up with.
In all honesty, I have never heard the original so I have no basis of comparison like I do with In My Dream. But taken on merit alone, it’s rather good. The bass line is typical crisp German bass, (if slightly toned down) the riff is fantastic, uplifting yet not cheesy or fluffy at all. The 2nd breakdown reveals another layer to the riff and makes it even better, making you feel as if the tune has taken you on a journey. The vocal sample doesn’t really add to the tune, it seems to say “I call you here”, so why this is called Heat I don’t know, but I can certainly live with not knowing the answer to that. On the basis of this release, I will be hoping for more output on this label by 3rd parties in the future.
