Label: Blutonium
Format: 12" Vinyl
Genre: Hardstyle
Blutonium, arguably one of the biggest hardstyle labels along in the scene today, returns once again with 2 slabs of hardstyle naughtiness, with the label creator Blutonium Boy joined by one of hardstyles premier DJ’s, Luna.
Blackout
For the pedantic such as me, even every sub genre has another sub genre. One of my favourite examples of this is what we have here: uplifting hardstyle. Ok so it’s not that way all the way through, but there is a wicked riff in there that any hard trance producer would be proud of. Unleashed after only 2 minutes, this really changes the way the tune is heading, after starting off as your usual hardstyle would.
Unfortunately this doesn’t last long and is soon replaced by a much more typical hardstyle riff.
It’s nice to see a producer trying to be slightly different, as I can’t say I have heard many tunes like this. The last time I found a hardstyle tune that was uplifting, I questioned the fact that it was even hardstyle (FYI it was the “hardstyle” remixes of Gouryella – Ligaya, on Carnal, even though both sides are blatant Hard Trance!).
Granted this tune doesn’t actually do much else worthy of note, but what it does do, it does well.
7/10
Fear
Fear (as the title may suggest) is a much more your typical hardstyle fare. It lays down its intentions very early with a harrowing scream, naughty acid stabs and proper stomping kicks. The breakdown harbours a nicely evil but not overdone vocal (in English, despite the fact that the producers are distinctly continental) followed by more screams. After nearly 4 and a half minutes it really gets going, a proper driving synth layered over the beat and more screams certainly put a smile on my face. Not as evil as the tune My Bitch (I’m not sure I will find one more evil to be honest) I reviewed last week on the Germantrance.com label, but certainly evil enough to have no Hardstyle lovers running for the hills.
8/10
