JTB and DJ Chuck-E

» Excitement

Reviewed by Dean Zone / Submitted 23-05-07 19:00

Label: Intolerance
Format: 12" Vinyl
Genre: European Hard Trance

Nearly a year after the first release on Intolerance (of which both tunes were crackers) we finally have a sequel from Chuck-E’s label simply named Excitement.

A. JTB and DJ Chuck-E – Excitement

Excitement starts with a brief vocal that seems to have nothing to do with the rest of the track, which leads into a breakbeat intro. Old school hardstyle leads might put off the less adventurous, followed by a hardstyle sounding sub bass and an overly time stretched vocal that I assume says “Excitement”.

When it kicks in proper you get attacked by a ferocious bass sound DJ Wag would have been proud of, done in a typical German hard trance style. Its all rather dark and nasty sounding up until this point, which is strange because the riff is really uplifting, even if it takes more of a cue from recent UK style hard trance than I personally would like, its still miles better than most other UK offerings. It’s nothing JTB hasn’t done before (or even better) but you can hear the addition DJ Chuck-E has had to these releases. Not quite killer, but definitely not filler.

8/10

B. Vandall – Dream Machine

The B Side is from probably the fastest up and coming hard trance producer the UK has to offer; Vandall. A lot more energetic and a lot less vocals than the stuff he puts out on his own Trancewarez label, this track is definitely a nice surprise. The vocal sample sounds very similar to an old tune on Red Alert called Secret Dream, but other than that it’s pretty all good. It starts very aggressively with a double kick drum and driving percussion, leading into the short vocal before the bass comes crashing down. The riff comes in not long after, and what a peach it is. The breakdown has a great little breakbeat sequence before a Wid and Ben Style snare fill takes us back into the tune with aplomb.

Although not quite as good production wise as his recent remix of DJ Revibe’s “Banging” on Joyride, its still a great all round tune. Still not sure about that vocal sample though.

9/10
