Polish/American psy trance DJ Maja Brzezicki a.k.a. Mistress Jade has finally touched base on European soil. She heads to London this coming weekend to play a mammoth four hour showcase and UK debut at Colours @ The Fridge this Saturday night, aptly named the Valentine Jade Special.
Flying from the USA, Mistress Jade has already played the main stage at Holland’s infamous party based in Ruigoord, the Trance Orient Express, blowing the rafters high. Her name is ever increasing in popularity with followers across the globe as she casts her spell on the masses and infects them with her unique blend of Goa psy trance. This is one infection well worth catching……!!! For the very first time on HarderFaster, please welcome the psy goddess Mistress Jade.
Maja, it’s a pleasure to have you here in the UK. How are you enjoying your European visit?
It’s great to be here and finally get a chance to play overseas. I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for a long time and I’ve been dying to visit the UK. So far, I’m loving it and definitely looking forward to playing in London this weekend. My trip so far has been totally eye opening and I’m hoping to come back very soon.
You’ve just recently played at Trance Orient Express in Holland. What were your thoughts on your visit there?
Holland was an unbelievable experience, from the second I got off the plane to the minute I got dropped off at the airport. Visiting Ruigoord was an adventure in itself and an enlightening experience. It’s one of the most spiritual, friendly, and colourful places I’ve ever visited, full of wonderful, creative people.
As for Trance Orient Express, the event was absolutely mind blowing. From the visuals, to the music, to the people, I couldn’t ask for anything better. The Dutch really know how to party!
From Ruigoord to finally playing at one of the country’s most legendary venues in London, no doubt you’re looking forward to casting your spell at Colours?
After the amazing experience I had at Trance Orient Express, I’m very much looking forward to Colours. Except this time I have four hours to infect the crowd with psychedelic sounds… I hope everyone’s ready!
There must be many UK psy trance parties you’d like to play at?
I’d definitely like to come back to the UK and play at many of the psy parties and festivals I’ve heard about, such as Antiworld. I’ve also heard about Acid Monkey, Tribe of Frog, Ripsnorter, and quite a few others that look awesome. I’d love to expand my borders and spread the psy infection on a large scale.
So what is it about psy trance that inspires you so much?
Psy trance for me is more than just a sound, it’s a way of life. It represents who I am and what I believe in. It is truly an inspiration to me and often times, one of the things that keep me alive and going. My re-discovery of psy trance was a blessing that came at exactly the perfect time in my life. It inspires me to express myself, to look deep within myself, and to love life just being me. My love for this music is never-ending and when I’m not DJing, you can find me on the dance floor, dancing the night away.
So what is the Mistress Jade sound and what can the Colours massive expect to hear from you?
The Mistress Jade sound? Ha ha, well, I love it all, from full-on, to progressive, to the darkest of dark psy. The best way I can describe one of my sets is a building journey taking you from the energetic, melodic sounds of full-on to the driving, psychedelic sounds of dark psy, finishing off with my favourite tunes of the moment, promising to leave a lasting impression and leaving you wanting more.
Who are the producers of the moment for you? Your sound is quite unique…
One of my favourite artists of the moment is U-Recken. I discovered him a couple of months ago, and his music completely blew me away. Other producers I really love at the moment are Dissociactive, Twisted Reaction, Kindzadza, and Digicult.
Your promo mixes always go down well amongst the masses. Your most recent promo CD, ‘From Dusk Til Dawn’, has received a glowing response from many. How does the response you receive make you feel with?
I am truly honoured by all the positive feedback that I receive on my mixes. When creating a CD, I choose only the tracks that I love, whether or not they are popular at the time or are being played at major clubs and festivals world-wide. Knowing that people love the music I select as much as I do really puts all the pieces together and I feel I am giving them something that truly comes from deep within my heart and allowing them to get to know me on a more intimate level…a shared connection. And for those of you who are coming down to the Fridge on Saturday, I will have copies of ‘From Dusk Til Dawn’ available at Colours during my performance.
You’re a qualified sound engineer. Do you find this quality helps dramatically with your flawless mixing ability?
Yes, after studying many different styles of music from electronic, to classical, to rock, it definitely does help on the technical side. Knowing the language of music surely helps me decide what will work and what won’t on many different levels, both technical and psychological, from blending tracks together so they flow flawlessly to making sure that the audience stays in the energy of the moment. The way I look at it is each song builds onto the next, taking you higher and higher, each one bringing with it its own unique energy, all fitting together like pieces of a puzzle creating a crystal clear picture.
Maja, it’s been a pleasure chatting with you and finding out more about Mistress Jade. Is there anything you’d like to say before you finish?
Thank you, it’s been a pleasure chatting with you as well. For more information about me or to download my mixes, visit http://www.myspace.com/djmistressjade. Also, feel free to check out Psylicious’s page at: http://www.myspace.com/psylicious. There are lots of things planned for the future, so keep checking in for updates. Also, thanks to Tom from TEK-DJ Management for making all of this possible. We’ve come a long way and there’s a lot more to come! And for those of you in the USA and Canada, keep your eyes open for upcoming events which are frequently updated on my page. I will be playing at GODIZUS Jade Event on March 31, 2007 in Vancouver, Canada, and a few events in March are still to be confirmed in the USA. Finally, I hope to see everyone down at the Fridge this Saturday! This trip has been an absolute pleasure and I’m ready to leave with a bang and hopefully return soon! Thanks again!
