Sunday 3rd August sees the welcome return of one of Cornwall’s biggest and best loved family events ‘Gig on the Green’ at Boscawen Park, Malpas in Truro.
This fun filled one-day festival is free for all and bursting at the
seams with action and entertainment. From the three music stages showcasing local and national talent, to the massive ‘It’s a Knockout Competition’ featuring teams from across Cornwall it’s sure to be an enjoyable and amusing spectacle.
Its a beautiful sunny Sunday morning in Cornwall, pack up the kids, grab the other half, meet up with your mates and slip on your party sandals for a day of fun at Gig On the Green 2008 at Boscawen Park, Truro. As there is no parking at the event, and you don’t want to be worrying about the stress and hassle of snailing through the traffic, leave the car at home or head for the ‘Park & Ride Service from Truro Cattle Market’.
As you arrive at the entrance gates, the upbeat sounds catch your attention, so its straight over for a piece of the action on the main ‘Red Stripe & Bunters Stage’. Which welcomes headline appearances from ‘Luke Leighfield’ and ‘Klaus says buy the record’ both of which have been receiving critical acclaim and mass media attention of late, hotly tipped as promising breakthrough acts. Also on the bill are; ‘ Tim & Sam Band, Small Wonder, Hitchcock Rules, Ammunition, Neon Luv Chicken,
Three Minute Warning, and Yazmin’. This stage will also see comparing and DJ support from Ibiza Rocks resident, Glasto & Reading Festival favourite ‘Goldierocks’ who had recently remixed a forthcoming single from ‘The Kooks’.
After a bit of a dance its time to keep the whole family entertained and what better place then The ‘Scooby Doo Kids Zone’, sure to be a big hit with the little ones (and inevitably the grown ups too) it will also see a special guest visitor, add to this ‘Circus Workshops, Live Graffiti Tour, and DJ Workshops’, all angles are well and truly covered, and you can now get another musical fix.
So, its on to the ‘Whats On Stage’ with diverse and exciting selection of award winning local bands such as; ‘Rosie & The Goldbug, The Sycamores, Glass Shark, The Sea, The Reels, Pondlife, and mystery guests’. A perfect chance to check out what a vibrant live music scene, and wealth of talent Cornwall has.
It’s thirsty work all this dancing and prancing, making the ‘Pimms
Garden, various Bars, and any of the VK, Tuborg and Blackthorn Buses’ the perfect destination to wet your whistle, chill out and recharge in the sun. Why not top up the energy levels and grab some food for the family from a wide selection of delicious menus from ‘The Tyacks Food Marquee, Barbecue, and various Food Stalls’.
If your feet tap more to a dancier beat, then venture to ‘La La Lands’ for a mix of everything from ‘Hard Dance and Trance, to Drum & Bass and Breaks, to Big Beat and Electro’. Being played by the regions leading DJs such as ‘Fatboy Tim, Audio:Pressure residents, Freerange DJs’ and ‘Tranzaction’ who alongside the residents will feature headline acts ‘Cally & Juice, DJ Frisky, and MC Shocker’.
A Day out for the whole family to enjoy, and no need to worry about queues of traffic getting out of the event, or paying for taxis, as its straight onto the ‘Park & Ride Service’ to the Truro Cattle Market.

Remember, there is no parking facilities at the event so please use the Park & Ride service provided at the Truro Cattle Market, Newquay Road.
