God Don't Like It presents a special one-off event showcasing two of the most talked about labels currently emerging on the electronic music scene. Both were founded in 2009, Svetlana Industries in Belgrade, Serbia, and Well Rounded Records in Brighton, UK. While Well Rounded is more committed to the god of House and Svetlana has followed a more eclectic path, including dubstep, beats and Detroit influences, both are united in their consistent and courageous promotion of talented new artists, many of whom are subsequently pounced on by bigger competitors.
With eleven artists across two rooms combining hard hitting party house with more quirky and eclectic selections in the second room all for a bargain 5 advance this promises to be rare, interesting, banging and big all round.
Representing Well Rounded are: the star of their first ever release, Deadboy, Spatial, one of the pioneers of the fusion of house/dubstep sound that now defines UK Bass, deep house sounds from new signing Gongon and a vinyl purist's set from label founder Donga.
Representing Svetlana are: BNJMN, fresh from a fantastic 4.5/5 review in Resident Advisor for his recent album on Rush Hour, Brey, the hotly tipped experimental house producer, new signing Microburst, with a deep and original sound reminiscent of Fourtet and recently described by a London reviewer as "a revelation", label founder Thunderloops and partner in crime Andrea3000, adding the only female element to the line-up. Kelpe steps in as a long time friend of the label with his brand of hard hitting Technicolor hip hop.
ABOUT THE LABELS
Svetlana Industries are the label born in Belgrade, Serbia in 2009, that has attracted attention for releases by Teebs, Nightwave and BNJMN as well as scouring Eastern Europe for promising producers and then persuading figures such as Zomby and Ramadanman to remix them. Their distinctive artwork has also attracted praise. Releases have covered dubstep, beats and techno, and proclaim an enthusiasm for the sounds of Warp Records, Detroit and all forms of noises and weirdness, and are united by the search for fresh sounds and energy and a love of melody.
They are currently nominated in both music and video categories at the Qwartz electronic music awards in Paris, and have just been asked to curate the Sound:Frame festival in Vienna in March 2012, with releasing upcoming from 1000names, Parallel Concept, Microburst, Dem Hunger and the much tipped Brey.
Well Rounded Records, based in Brighton, was set up by DJ Donga back in Autumn 2009 to release tracks by his friend Deadboy. This resulted in the seminal debut U Cheated EP which has garnered much love for its distinctive re-imagining of soulful garage. Since this auspicious start the label has been prolific, releasing a slew of vinyl releases including the original R'n'B refix series Cash Antics from artists including Deadboy and Doc Daneeka, and single artist EPs by Hackman, C.R.S.T, Submerse, Littlefoot, Donga & Blake, Kidkut and Skinnz.
Donga also set up two Well Rounded subsidiary labels: Housing Project focuses on a pure house vibe with releases by James Fox, Outboxx and Julio Bashmore remixes of Deadboy's classic Heartbreaker. Individuals has no musical restrictions and has so far given birth to the distinctive Juke of Wheez-Ie plus the the broken-techno of Graphics. Forthcoming releases include EPs by Gongon, Spatial, XXXY, Distal Featuring DJ Rashad and much more.
