After last week’s continental encounter, The Gallery offers a very British main room offering on Friday 21st May, with Seb Fontaine, James Zabiela and John Askew keeping the bulldog spirit alive!! The Gallery still likes to mix things up though and this week’s T2 party will be hosted by Going Places, lovers of “Adventures-In-International-House-Music” with special guest Glasse doing the honours from Poland.
Seb Fontaine is a DJ still very much at the top of his game. His monthly Type parties are still rocking away at The Cross (and now in Brighton), but he loves to return to Turnmills and in particular The Gallery as often as he can – a club he was once resident at in the late 1990’s. James Zabiela on the other hand only made his Gallery debut in February of this year and such was the impact he made that night, that we were itching to get him back as soon as possible!! Well, tonight is that night and the young maestro will be back in the box with his Pioneer EFX-500 unit, Dalek samples, scratching, looping and a bleepy selection of brooding house and breaks to again underline why he is one of the world’s most exciting DJs. Gallery resident John Askew is another DJ on the rise (despite being involved in DJing and putting on parties for almost a decade!) and with his Kompressed record label going from strength to strength John is easily one of the most in demand Producers on the (tech) Trance scene. As is fellow Gallery resident Gavyn Mytchel, whose debut two tracks were snapped up Armin Van Buuren’s Dutch Armada label and Turnmills’ own Duty Free Records. Everyone from Tiesto to John 00 Fleming have been caning his tunes for months now and he’s also causing a storm behind the decks where Mixmag are championing him as one of their Future Hero DJs for 2004. Plus make sure you get down early for this one as Alter Ego returns for his second warm up stint.
With Going Places in town, the backroom gives a two finger salute to the Brits in the main as they continue their international search for the new darlings of house music from around the world. This month’s choice destination is Poland, with Glasse representing his Eastern Europe home. Glasse is the resident at Import!, Walsaw’s largest and best night, held at the Piekernia club. The likes of Lottie and Tom Stephan are two of Glasse’s biggest fans, which certainly says something about his twisted house groove. Going Places second guest is Tom Real, part of the Ignition DJs collective. He’s just done a tune for ace label Skyline Recordings and he’ll be rounding off the night with house and breaks mash-up. The evening’s fun is completed by Tania von Pear, the Dutch sounding, jackin’ house rockin’, Going Places resident, plus there’s a live set from Backhander and an early warm up from rising talent Jon Barber.
