Acoustic Figures is a night of new music set in a relaxed atmosphere. With performances from passionate and engaging musicians, Acoustic Figures strives to bring contemporary music out of the concert hall and into more intimate spaces where it can be enjoyed by a wider audience. We aim to provide something for all ears, be you a seasoned concert goer or adventurous music fan.
Landseer Oboe Trio :
The freshly formed trio will perform two works that aim to challenge the the preconception of what an oboe trio can do and can sound like:
James Macmillan - Intercession
John Adams (arr. J. Bescoby) - China Gates
Charly Webber:
The innovative and adventurous clarinettist will perform Press Release for bass clarinet by Pulitzer Prize winning American composer David Lang.
The Octandre Ensemble: Songs and Subconscious Spectra
Guitar – Sam Cave
Theremin – Christian Mason
A programme revealing the rich heritage of the guitar, in a rare pairing with theremin, raging from arrangements of Elizabethan lute song to Radulescus's space-age spectral soundscapes, via Murail's meditation on flamenco techniques viewed through a spectral filter.
Tristan Murail – Tellur, 1977 – guitar solo
John Dowland: guitar and theremin
– Come Again
– Flow My Tears
– Can She Excuse My Wrongs
Horatiu Radulescu – Subconscious Wave, 1984 – guitar and tape
Edgar Varese – Un grand sommeil noir, 1908 – guitar and theremin
Idle Ruins
Idle Ruins (Lachlan Anderson and Andrew MacMurray) will perform a live soundtrack to Scroll, a short film by London based 16mm film maker Matthew Carter. The music will utilise violin, organ and synthesiser to produce textural sound to compliment Carter’s abstract footage of landscapes in Northern England.
