Monday?? We're not having our 3rd Birthday party on a Monday are we??
On Friday 7th December DirtyGroove celebrate their 3rd birthday at spiritual home Inigo with a special guest who sums up what we’ve been doing since our beginning back in 2004. Quality, underground and edgy music but with that all important element of fun – we give you Mike Monday........let’s ‘ave it!
Mike Monday has had an amazing two years across 2005-2007. The label he co-founded, Playtime, came into 2006 described as "one of the best labels to come out of 2005" (DJ Mag). Playtime's first release by Mike (and DirtyGroove anthem), "What Day is it?" was raved about by DJs from Steve Bug to Josh Wink, Groove Armada to Ewan Pearson. Release three by Mike, “Tooting Warrior”, hit #6 in the German dance charts. Even tracks released on other labels were enormous, with “Bhalobashi” on Simple Records a favourite of M.A.N.D.Y. and Top 10 in DJ Mag’s hype chart.
As IDJ said, "not a week goes by in dance music when you don't hear someone new trying to imitate Monday's trademark wonky sounds"; which is why he's been in high demand as a DJ ever since the first days of Playtime. Tours of Brazil, Asia, and twice each for Australia and the States. Europe, Spain and Russia, you name it, every week, as well as nearly every city in the UK and an exclusive slot at Sonar Festival in Barcelona with Jesse Rose; he’s been everywhere. All this on top of headlining Playtime's own monthly night in London.
Now he's preparing for the release of album two, on seminal label Om Records and due for release in March 2008. But in the meantime, there's still another big release to come, "Smorgasbord: The Remixes", featuring choice underground European producers like Tom Mangan, Tommy Four Seven, Style of Eye and others. Basically he's one of the big guns and if you get in early you get to see him at DG for FREE!
We’re seriously ecstatic to have Mike down to help our birthday celebrations go off with a bang. Support on the night will come from all the DG residents as Inigo will also be launching their new 4am license! See you on the tables!
