IMPLOSION DISCOVER BRIXTON ENERGY FOUNT
Emerging from the tube station on an average Friday or Saturday night and it is not difficult to believe those who say, Brixton is situated above one of the earth’s energy points, it explains the inordinately high concentration of pubs and clubs. After touring the length and breadth of Brixton, taking in several of the area’s finest establishments, the Implosion gang believe they have stumbled across a hole in the fabric which separates the natural from the supernatural, so that planet Earth’s energy bubbles up from below to creating a fount of irresistible invigoration. Though, being positioned smack in the middle of Club 414’s dance-floor, does suggest they are not, surely, the first to make this discovery.
After finding out in May that Club 414, with it’s intimate atmosphere, appeared purpose-built to their requirements, Implosion are now busy plotting their return - Saturday 1st of July, 2006. For another all-night, plus half the next morning, attempt to obtain immortality, with a line-up of assorted djs, from Implosion’s gaggle of residents, plus international guests, as bait.
July 1st’s guest a man who’s name, bit like Batman’s, depends on what he’s doing at that time, either he is (by night) Dj Jules Hamer or (by day) producer Aphid Moon. After a couple of late last-millennium releases, he has taken on the new-millennium, head down, butt up. Output including, a string of tracks on virtually all the British, and a few notable foreign, psy labels, "High Diver" - his first solo album, released on Dragonfly, 2003 - a deep, night-time sound with distinctive British twist and, a second in 2005, "Global Culture", on Nano. All the while, as Dj Jules Hamer, steadily developing his unique style, playing, dj and live, sets in Japan, Israel, S.A., Brazil, Europe and the U.K. This year, 2006, he’s hard at work, with Dick Trevor, putting the final touches to a new A.M.D. album, which based on all reports, is a front-on, and unashamedly so, psy bonanza.
Keeping him on his toes though, will be fellow guests, Liquid Records label manager, Liquid Ross and DJ Sutekh from Psygate, alongside the resident djs, including Fordy, Bedouin, Mad Theo, a Toxigen vs Mish Mash face-off, plus, the main-man Jay OM aka Journey/Star Trip aka the promoter. Mind, at Implosion, there are as many reasons to attend outside the dj booth, as there are in it - the magic of the dance-floor, a wonderfully diverse, life’s-a-box-of-chocolates, communal, experience, off it, the all pervasive friendly ‘n’ fluffy attitude, from crowd and crew, as well, the uv market - offering all things cds to sweeties, massages to piercings, clothes to cameras and everything in-between, plus, Club 414’s - unique and tolerant - Brixton vibe, also the free fresh fruit, décor transformations by Pickle and friends, and, not forgetting, the aforementioned, regenerative power, all this paddling in the fount does provide.
Dancing on the dance floor, you close your eyes, the music is making your whole body vibrate with a delicious energy, feeling the beats deep within, the energy of the rhythm lightens your spirit and a smile forms in the pit of your soul, it’s warming you, moving its way up then erupting to light up your face. Your body begins to sway…you’ve imploded, again.
